Software Quality Assurance

NARAC's software is extensively tested in order to verify and validate that it is implemented correctly, produces accurate predictions, and is reliable in emergency conditions. NARAC system software is rigorously tested as it is developed or modified and NARAC models are subject to additional validation and evaluation.

NARAC maintains a NARAC Software Quality Assurance Plan (SQA) that documents compliance with requirements set forth in the LLNL Institutional Software Quality Assurance Program (ISQAP), pursuant to DOE Order 414.1 on Quality Assurance. SQA activities cover:

  • Software Project Management and Quality Planning
  • Software Risk Management
  • Software Configuration Management
  • Procurement and Supplier Management
  • Software Requirements Identification and Management
  • Software Design and Implementation
  • Software Safety
  • Verification and Validation
  • Problem Reporting and Corrective Action
  • Training of Personnel

The NARAC modeling system software has been evaluated and accepted into the DOE Subcommittee on Consequence Assessment and Protective Actions (SCAPA) Consequence Assessment Modeling Toolbox https://edms.energy.gov/edms/EMISIG/STARS/CAMWG.
